VoiceBase Transcription Trial

I decided to give VoiceBase, an online transcription AI, a try.

Like YouTube, once you upload your file, VoiceBase will give you an AI software transcription of your file. When you sign up for a free account with VoiceBase, you get 50 free hours of AI transcription.

However, it also has a paid 'human' transcription service, at a very reasonable fee of 2 cents per minute. The website is at https://www.voicebase.com/.

So I thought I would give it a try to test accuracy. I dictated 61 seconds of information onto my PC, saved it as an mp3 file, and uploaded that file to VoiceBase.

In under 24 hours, I got an email with my transcription attached as a text file.

Below are the results:

What I said

Hello there.

This is Sam Young and I'm recording my voice in order to do a trial on VoiceBase.

I'm just going to do a couple of minutes exploring how well my speech is transcribed using this software.

I'm going to do a couple of test quotes in order to see how well this comes through.

This is a quote from Reginald Hill from his book, Arms and the Women,  1999, page 67:

"Is this really so important to me I've got to say it?  Is this potentially so interesting to readers, they'll have to read it?".

Now a couple of pieces of not prose,  but technical writing; Why can't I get help from this programme... [my transcription got cut off here].
What VoiceBase thought I said

now a couple of paces if not prize batch typical brushing Why can't I get help from this program... [cut off point].

Hmm. I am not sure that VoiceBase's AI is any better Dragon NaturallySpeaking. It also occurs to me that uploading a file to YouTube and copying out the transcription might be just as accurate.

So I will give both of those a try and report back on them as well.

Sam
