I use a news aggregator, Pulse, to get my technology - and some of my global - news. It is a great service, providing quite a lot of insight on different break-throughs from around the planet.
When I read it today, I found a post in my Tech section that linked me to 5dollarblog, the blog of Steven Adams who is a self-confessed Fiverr addict. For those of you who don't know what Fiverr is, it is a website where anyone who wants to can sell a base service for $5. You can have service add-ons which cost more, but the base service has to be only $5.
Steven has been trading on Fiverr for a while, and tastes the Fiverr offerings... and decided after seeing a friend replacing their profile image with a Simpson's avatar, to get a Simpson's avatar created for $5 for himself.
Steven was impressed with his result. For USD$5? Not much of an investment... so I thought it was a small enough investment to give it a try too. I trundled over to the page myself and ordered one at http://fiverr.com/eliana93fer/draw-you-as-a-simpson-cartoon.
A couple of weeks later Fiverr notified me that my order had arrived online, taken from my profile photo. It is OK, I think for $5: not terribly like me, but will do (and I have done some colour tweaking on the jpg on this page as the colours that came back are not really 'my' colours). I might do a bit of photoshopping :-D
I could have purchased a full body image for $20, but felt that the base service was enough for me.
What do you think?
Sam
