The Herald reported some statistics at the beginning of 2016 saying that Auckland was one of the world's most cosmopolitan cities, sitting at number 4 internationally. What that Herald article didn't make very clear was that the data was already a year old, according to Statista (2016a), above.
Part of Auckland's cosmopolitan nature just might be due to the fact that New Zealand is number two in the world for having the highest percentage of population living off-shore. Statista (2016b) reports again:
One statistic does not present a whole picture: I think it provokes a lot of "Why?" questions.
