YouTube's Dark Mode in Chrome

If you have ever wanted to watch a YouTube video in a dark room, you will know that sometimes it can be very useful to be able to turn down the screen back lighting so you don't disturb others - and so watching is easier on the eyes. All that white background makes the video itself hard to see, and 'dark mode' turns the white surround to black.

Nothing to do with stealth ;-D

However, despite having had YouTube since 2006, we haven't had access to dark mode. Or, as Abent says, "there’s been no official way that we know about" (14 April 2017, emphasis added).

But Google Chrome has two ways of doing this in YouTube, now.

First way:
  1. Open Chrome.
  2. Log in to YouTube.
  3. While on the YouTube page, open Chrome Developer Tools (Ctrl, Shift & I)
  4. A sidebar will pop up containing code. Click on the "Console" tab right at the top.
  5. Paste in document.cookie="VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=fPQ4jCL6EiE" .
  6. Close the developer tools sidebar
  7. Refresh the YouTube page.
  8. Click your YouTube profile picture, select Dark Mode from the dropdown, and toggle the switch to enable the mode.
Second way:
The second way is SOOO easy!
