Getting a DOI from Research Gate

Have you ever needed a DOI for something that wasn't published in a journal or a book? A DOI is a digital object identifier, a unique set of characters allocated by the International DOI Foundation. DOIs are what are often cited in journal references, to clearly identify the item being cited.

If we upload an article to ResearchGate, we can then self-generate a free DOI for it, which we can use for later reference anywhere else. All we need to do is:
  1. Open our ResearchGate profile, and go to the Contributions tab.
  2. Then we click on the title of the publication we want a DOI for.
  3. On the right-hand side of the page that opens, we simply click on the blue arrow, and select "Generate a DOI" from the menu.
  4. We need to carefully check our publication details, then
  5. Click "Generate a DOI".
Your DOI will now show on the publication page, under your document title.

So easy.
