Muting Twitter accounts or terms

I am sure nearly everyone else in the twitterverse knows that we can mute certain words, people or accounts from our twitter feed, but I didn't. Until today. Today was the day I finally took action to find out if I could silence some tweets that were faintly distasteful to me.

Taking action was surprisingly easy. A quick google search directed me to a great Twitter support article (here) which made it extremely easy to simply mute the account I was wanting to no longer see. The best thing is that you can also mute hashtags, phrases or anything else that you want to avoid.

There are many, many reasons why people may not want to see particular items. A few - off the top of my head - are: political overload; preachiness; or pregnancy blues. It is nice to be able to simply quiet some voices until we are ready to allow them space in our lives again.

Simply go to our Notifications tab | Settings | Muted Words | Add. We can mute forever... or for a day, a week or a month. We can later decide to unmute by going back to the same place.

Nice one, Twitter, for allowing users that control, and for making it so easy to do :-)
